Sapphire glass is different from natural sapphire in that it is artificially processed and synthesized as an anti-wear material. However, it can also be scratched by substances with higher or equal hardness, such as granite, nail files, grindstones, etc. Sapphire window panels can be widely used in various fields such as security, car accessories, digital cameras, lasers, optical instruments, etc. With the continuous development of the market, the application of lens technology is also becoming increasingly widespread.
1、 Source:
Sapphire glass is artificially synthesized and gemstone grade sapphires are produced in the laboratory. Its physical and chemical properties are the same as natural sapphire, so it is difficult to distinguish without relevant instruments or experience.
2、 Polishing processing method
1. Hydration polishing: During the processing of ceramic polishing machines, the polishing disc rubs against the surface of sapphire, generating high temperature and high pressure at the contact point. The atomic surface on sapphire is activated, and superheated steam gas molecules and water act on its surface to form a hydration chemical reaction layer at the interface. Then, with the help of superheated steam, the hydration layer on the surface of sapphire is removed by the frictional force between the two, thereby achieving ultra precision machining of the surface.
2. The principle of laser polishing and laser polishing of sapphire is: through the thermal and photochemical reactions between laser and sapphire, it can be divided into two methods: cold polishing and hot polishing. Cold polishing uses short wavelength lasers to chemically decompose and remove materials. After the sapphire surface material absorbs light molecules, the surface material structure is destroyed, causing the surface material to detach and achieve material removal. Sapphire window thermal polishing generally uses continuous long wavelength lasers to remove surface components of materials through melting, evaporation, and other methods. However, its large thermal temperature gradient and stress can easily lead to cracks and surface roughness, making it more suitable for rough polishing. The cold polishing process has low thermal stress and rarely produces cracks, making it suitable for ultra precision polishing.
3、 Characteristics
1. High hardness
Its main component is alumina, which has high hardness, so its price is relatively high.
2. Color
This product is not blue and can be changed into various colors by adding some chemicals, but generally speaking, sapphire glass is often made colorless and used to make window panels, etc.
3. Electrical and thermal characteristics
Having the characteristics of general glass, including electrical insulation and thermal conductivity.
4. Infrared transmittance and chemical stability
It has good infrared transmittance and chemical stability, so it is widely used in various aspects of infrared devices, such as far-infrared sights, night vision cameras, etc.
The above are the characteristics and processing methods of sapphire. Sapphire window plates have high transparency, cost-effectiveness, and good hardness, making them a relatively excellent material. Currently, this product is commonly used to make watch mirrors, mobile phone screens, optical components, and other products.
